My favorite thing/one of the only things that helps me calm down when I'm raging is a hot bath. But my apartment doesn't have a bathtub and I'm having a hard time coming up with other things to do. Meditation/breathing exercises don't work well for me.
Search didn't turn anything up (as far as a mega thread), and I'd rather not have to read through a million posts just to find a few good tips.
Please share your favorite coping mechanisms or self-care tips or positive affirmations that help you. I'll add them to the body of this post. I'm also adding a few that I found in other threads.
Things to try:
- Exercise (even just walking)
- Going outside and sitting in the sun for a few minutes
- Walk the dog/Play with your pet
- A hot bath/shower (bonus: salts, scrubs, and/or bath bombs)
- CBD oil
- Magnesium capsules (they're supposed to be calming)
- Yoga (Or even just stretching.)
- Watch a funny movie/tv show (I suggest Netflix standup comedy.)
- Face Masks
- Keep a diary of positive thoughts/affirmations
- Do the laundry
- Talk it out with your support system
- Eat a healthy meal/food (This has more of a mental effect than a physical one imo, but still helpful because it makes me feel "productive/good")
- Drink a large glass of cold water (I always add lemon because it makes me feel like I'm being "healthy" lol)
- Track your cycle. (Some popular apps are Clue, Flo, Me v PMDD)
- Art/Coloring. Lots of people seem to recommend adult coloring books.
- Weighted blankets
- ASMR/Relaxation videos
- Online chat therapy (There's websites like 7cupsoftea that will connect you to a "listener" who is just a normal person that you can just chat with for free.)
- Organize something around your house
- Drink some tea (Raspberry leaf and spearmint both have positive effects on hormonal imbalances)
- Make a to-do list
- Scream into a pillow
-
Things to avoid:
- Caffeine
- Alcohol
- Toxic/negative people
- Sugar/junk food
- Making important decisions
-
Positive Affirmations/Things to say to yourself:

- Your feelings are valid.
- This will pass.
-
