I had surgery and I'm symptom free now

This last winter I went in for what was supposed to be an exploratory laparoscopy to look for endometriosis. I definitely had endo but I also ended having several other things that needed to be fixed. Among those things was a very large cyst that had been there since I was 19.

I knew about the cyst because it was found 10 years ago. At the time they decided not to do surgery hoping that birth control would make it go away. One doc suggested that it might be putting out additional hormones into my body. Thing is, I've had multiple ultrasounds since that time and it never showed up. I thought it was gone.

It's been about 6 months from that surgery and my debilitating PMDD symptoms are gone. I have no idea why. I don't know if the cyst was the culprit or if something else was going on. I just wanted to pass this news along to you guys. I've struggled with PMDD for so long. The exhaustion and depression that would come with it was so bad at times that I would become borderline suicidal, only to feel perfectly fine a few days later.

Science knows so little about this condition. I've had docs SWEAR it was all in my head. That I was just sensitive. I had hormonal imbalance issues from the time I was a kid so I just blamed it on that. All I know is that my symptoms are now gone and I'm confused but perhaps a little hopeful that there are options out there aside from Zoloft or Prozac.

I don't exactly have a point for this little story. However, what I would say is that if you feel like there is more going on and you want/need an additional opinion - PUSH FOR IT. I went though 7 doctors that told me I was just anxious and overreacting before I found someone willing to do an exploratory surgery. There was a lot wrong in there. It needed to be done a long time ago. Advocate for your health and don't give up.
