My acne journey

Hello everyone. I’m a regular lurker on this subreddit and I wanted to finally share my story. I always had very clear skin up until my first year of college. Halfway through my freshman year, I went through a terrible hormonal imbalance that absolutely ruined my skin.

I eventually went to a dermatologist after I realized no amount of DIY treatment was going to treat my hormonal acne. My derm prescribed me spironolactone, I got on birth control, and started regularly using topical clindamycin and Retin-A. Little by little, my skin started to clear up until I no longer had acne. It’s now been 2.5 years of healing the aftermath of my acne.

I’ve done multiple RF microneedling treatments for my scarring and plan on doing several more. My skin is by no means perfect, and I’m working on scarring mostly now. I still get a pimple here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. Currently, I use Retin-A every other day and am on a very small dose of spironolactone, but I plan on quitting it completely soon with the guidance of my dermatologist. Also, I apologize for some of the crustiness in these pictures!
