I started taking birth control pills about 2 and a half years ago. Before this, I had nice skin with occasional pimples, nothing too bad. The first 4 months or so of being on birth control, I had terrible cystic acne. I understood it was my body getting used to the hormones and eventually my skin got better and cleared up for about a year.
Mid last year, my acne started to flare up again and would not go away. I did not understand because I thought the reason behind the emergence of my acne was due to starting birth control, so I thought I was past it once my body became used to the pills.
I am currently on accutane and still taking birth control pills. I do not plan to stop taking birth control for many years. I am worried that later on in life, when I do stop taking it, my acne will return due to hormonal imbalances. My past with acne & birth control makes me think that this is highly likely.
Have any of you had experience with this? Or are any of you knowledgeable on the topic and can provide me with some answers?
