I was diagnosed with pcos about a year ago. When I was 21 I started getting big cystic acne all over my face. As a teenager, I never had acne. I tried multiple different treatments, tropical creams, etc. Nothing worked, so my doctor decided to put me on hormonal birth control. It worked amazing! Fast forward a couple of years I started gaining a lot of weight, my hair started falling out and I speculated I might have pcos. I got off the pill for several months and had blood tests done and it turned out I had hormonal imbalances that were in the polycystic range according to me doctor. She suggest I continue on the pill and labeled it “slight underlying pcos”. I’ve been on the pill, I keep gaining weight. I have dark patches around my neck my underarms. I’m completely intolerant to gluten and dairy. My stomach is weak, I can’t handle any alcohol. I struggle figuring out what to eat, what exercises to do. Today I spoke with my doctor to get more extensive testing done like ultrasounds, insulin testing etc. She says the only way to manage pcos is birth control. I’m scared of getting blood clots, I’m scared of infertility in the future, but she doesn’t seem to take me seriously. Ugh, I don’t know how to manage this condition and it makes it harder when your doctor throws the pill as a fix. I’d love to get off, but I’m also scared of having all that acne come back, loosing hair and all those symptoms getting much much worse. This condition is affecting my mental health, I don’t see any type of solution. I feel overweight, unhealthy and just ugly :( just my rant of the day.
