Do you have PMDD? Do you have PME? Not sure??

IAPMD website

This website saved me in 2013, I had already known I had pmdd but finding actual support and resources was extremely hard until this page! I am going to be posting a few links from this site.

What is PMDD?

What is PME

The best known ways to find out if you have PMDD or PME is to track your symptoms for at least 3-6 months, the longer the better. A great tracking app is MevPMDD. This will show clearly if symptoms increase during luteal phase or not.

Also going to the doctors, which I know many, if not all, of us hate. But you need to make sure that your symptoms are from PMDD and/or PME and not something else. (Fibroids, PCOS, tumor, cysts, etc). So getting a regular pap and bloodwork to show no hormone imbalance (because PMDD/PME are not from hormone imbalance) is very important.

Step to Diagnosis

PMDD/PME Self Screen

Tracking is also helpful because even though things have come a long way PMDD/PME is still often overlooked and no taken seriously, so it’s important to be your own advocate! Being able to show the doctors your tracking will help advocate for yourself.

PMDD for a long time wasn’t coded in WHO (World Health Organization) until a few years ago and now it’s coded as an Obgyn issue, so these doctors should be able to treat PMDD. Unfortunately, PME has not come this far yet, it is not coded in WHO and most doctors only know of PMDD.

Many have used this site to make up a provider directory. It has doctors added to it from people who say they helped them with there PMDD because it still is hard to find a doctor that treats and knows about PMDD. You as a consumer have a right to see different doctors until finding one that actually listens and helps you.

Provider Directory

Some treatment/relief

• daily exercise - endorphins are great for PMDD, PME and also depression

• vitamins - magnesium, vitamin D and I’m sure there is more that I can’t recall right now.

• anti-depressants- some are taken all month long and some are taken only during luteal phase.

• medical marijuana - some have relief, some it causes anxiety

• no caffeine, no refined sugars and no alcohol. These can cause more anxiety, worsen symptoms, cause depression, and being drunk while suicidal/not emotionally in control/irrational, is not safe.

• therapy: I prefer CBT, it gives tools to stay grounded, manipulate anxiety and stay more in control during PMDD times.

• antihistamines - this has not been researched and is not a known treatment but MANY PMDD sufferers have found relief with taking these during luteal phase. This could be about another form of PMDD that has not been researched yet that might be an actual allergic reaction to hormone change and that’s why it’s works for some and not others.

I am sure there are more, but you have to experiment to find what works best for you.

It is so important to be your own advocate and get to the doctors!! Regular check ups are so important. I am saying this again because I learned the very hard way. And I don’t want it to happen to others. The woman body is beautiful and brings life but it’s also dangerous, and under-researched so making sure no other medical issues are taking place is so important for our health.

Hope this at least helps one person. Best of luck everyone and stay strong!!!
