[Skin Concerns] Hives randomly appearing.

A few months ago, I noticed a rash appear on my back. It covered a large area of skin on my left side and was extremely itchy. I consulted my doctor (dermatologist) and he wasn't exactly sure what could be causing it. Just that it appeared to be hives. I wasn't super worried but they did not go away for awhile. Weeks. None of the itch creams seemed to help either. They finally vanished and I forgot about it until I got another rash randomly a few months later. I noticed it when I got out of the shower and saw the same itchy patch of skin going down my right breast only. The hives appeared in a line on one side of my breast. There was also a lone hive on the underside of my breast. This was a lot harder to deal with so I went in again. He took one look at it and said it looked like a bug bite because three massive hives appeared in a row.

I have had bedbugs before years ago and this didn't feel like that. The itchy skin was similar but usually the time between bites was days not months. He did not check anything or treat me for the hives. Told me that if they appear again I should get my house looked at for bugs and that there was nothing he could do about them appearing. The hives took awhile but finally went away. I did check for bedbugs and found no evidence. Exterminator found no evidence either.

Last night I woke up after three hours of sleep to intense itching on my left should. Again there was a row of hives down my shoulder towards my left breast. This was the side touching the bed so I was panicked. Began looking for more bugs and found nothing. That was also when I noticed the other side (right shoulder) had a massive raised welt across it. Covers my entire right shoulder but it doesn't itch really unlike the left side. Just painful, swollen, and red. Nothing has brought it down so far.

Is it possible that these are bug bites and everybody is just missing the bugs somewhere? Could it be something else? I was being treated for rosacea. I'd get cystic acne very badly across my face. Haven't had any flare ups in nearly a month since starting an antibiotic.

I thought it could be related to hormonal imbalances or even chronic stress. I have PCOS and haven't had a natural period in two years. I'm also in a masters program and it has been a stressful semester since I'm dealing with getting a sleeping disorder diagnosed too. Feels like I haven't slept in awhile.

Anybody have random hives and did they eventually go away?
