I know, this sounds wrong, but I was prescribed a medicine a year ago for a condition I did not have (JME). I now have my seizures better under control (I had to track my cycle and realize it was my hormone imbalance causing seizures). Now I am trying to wean off my medicine that treats seizures that I do not have. My Dr. tells me not to do it, but I still have seizures and I believe it is because it because of this medicine. He is aware of this but does not want to make any changes. I live in NY and cannot go any longer without driving or waiting 4 months for a 5-minute phone call for him to tell me not to go off this medicine.
Should I do this anyway? slowly stop taking the medicine without telling my doctor? Only take the medicine that is helping me with my condition? It seems impossible to find a good epileptologist in NY without taking my body into my own hands.
Have any of you ever done this before? Or have any advice? I'm 24 F suffering from grand mals caused by my period cycles and hormone imbalance (now under control thanks to birth control, clobazam, and a visit to an OBGYN who has experience with epilepsy).
