How do I know that my periods are unusually bad? Considering birth control for life.

Hi! How was your day guys? I hope that everyone's alright :)

So sometimes my period gets very painful. A few times it got bad enough that I felt very lightheaded and the ibuprofen didn't kick in fast enough that I vomited continuously from the pain. I cry and beg my parents to take me to the hospital 'cause I genuinely don't know how to handle it when it gets that bad. But this hasn't happened that often, most times I'd say the pain is bad enough that I can't focus or do anything but not enough to pass out or vomit.

A few days ago, I was on like the fifth day of my period so I didn't have any ibuprofen on me but I felt like I was going to pass out in my test so I left but I was so terrified I was going to faint on my way home when the area isn't even safe. I called my parents and told them that I can't handle this anymore and that I want to stop getting my period. My dad's a doctor, he just called his coworker and told me I can start taking birth control. I wasn't expecting them to approve that easily since my parents are conservative.

Now I'm second guessing myself and feeling scared. A part of me is saying that since like 60% of the time my period isn't that bad I should just leave it. But the other side of me is ecstatic to never have to go through this again. What do I do? I hear a lot of things about birth control and my mum's afraid that it's also just another temporary solution when I have symptoms that point to a hormone imbalance. But taking ibuprofen for life is probably even worse, no? I'm going to speak to the doctor soon of course but I'm not in my home country and honestly don't trust the quality of healthcare here.

edit: Period is* not are hehe
