acne with typical hormone levels?

hi, i’m over 2 years on testosterone, 3 years in december.

i was wondering if birth control has any chance of reducing hormonal acne? one part of me is concerned that my acne is due to testosterone being low or imbalances, perhaps my body is still going through some sort of hormone cycle, which can be treated with birth control.

but i’ve had my testosterone consistently around 15-16 nmol/L, typical male range is 10-35 nmol/L.

my dose is 0.2ml testosterone cypionate (100mg/mL is the concentration; my dose is 0.2mg). most people are shocked “that my dose is so low”, and i have been on it for 1.5 years.

i think it is fine because my testosterone is in typical range, my estradiol is 80 pmol/L, which is within typical range of 48-155 pmol/L.

my endocrinologist agrees that i shouldnt increase my dose unless i am okay with risking the chance of more acne. my endocrinologist does not know much about acne and tells me to ask my dermatologist …

yet, my dermatologist does not know much about trans HRT. he says my acne looks like typical hormonal acne, usually caused by imbalance or fluctuations. he usually suggests birth control to his AFAB patients, but he wanted me to consult with my endrocrinologist.

i asked him about accutane, but yet again he is hesitant because there is a chance that hormonal acne may not respond to it, requiring another course of accutane.

i really don’t know what to do! for the most part, the rest of my bloodwork and labs are normal.

us trans folk on HRT are some medical “anomaly” to doctors and i am so sick of it! i have tried so many treatments and nothing is working! where is the acne advice for ftms šŸ˜
