what could be causing my Acanthosis nigricans? Help.

21F, 5.0ft, have had pcos since periods started.

SW: 200.1lbs, CW: 170lbs.

Google says that dark patches (Acanthosis nigricans) is caused by either insulin resistance or hormonal imbalance.

People on this subreddit say that PCOS is a manifestation of IR. Meaning, that if you’ve got dark patches with pcos - it’s because you’re insulin resistant. But my endo says I’m not insulin resistant since my blood work is “amazing”.

To treat Acanthosis nigricans, we need to treat the underlying condition. If pcos causes it, what’s the treatment? Pcos is an incurable disease. And if a doctor suggest BCP for PCOS, it can aggravate your dark patches.

So what actually is the treatment of Acanthosis nigricans when it’s just pcos causing it and not IR?

I’m really confused and frustrated. My blood reports show no sign of IR. My endocrinologist denied me an OGTT because my FBG (79mg/dl), Fasting insulin (8.47 ulU/mg), HBA1C (5.2%) were in “OPTIMAL RANGE”. The endo called my Acanthosis nigricans a purely dermatological issue.

Who do I blame for my ugliness caused by these dark patches? I started getting these soon after I got my periods. I had no education about my condition and no time to think about it as a 12 year old child.

And now that I read about this condition and lost 30 pounds thinking this would somewhat lighten my dark patches, the patches got worse and starting appearing on the front of my neck with skin tags. I’m at a loss for words. I’m truly the unluckiest.

I look at women with clean neck and ask God if a clean neck is too much to ask for? Life is so fucking unfair.
